Layout for Prima & Off the Rails Scrapbooking April Challenge

I seem to be blogging a lot recently! Haha.

My inspirations come from Off the Rails Scrapbooking & Prima's PPP this month.

As you can see, the colour scheme is CRAZY! The thing that came into my mind after looking at this moodboard was that the person who designed this must be a master at torturing people. Haha. This colour scheme completely pushed me out of my comfort zone which was why I decided to take up the challenge. After all, it'll not be a challenge if it's not challenging rite?

I pulled out my A4 size canvas and began to layer a piece of Tim Holtz Idea-ology tissue wrap. It's actually my first time using it after getting it for so long. The packaging is rather interesting, like our aluminium foil packaging with a jagged edge at the side for easy tearing.

So before putting the tissue down, I applied a thin coat of matt medium evenly on my canvas so my tissue will stick. You can use any type of adhesive as long as it's applied evenly. I then added butterflies chipboard from Maya Road on it.

A close up shot of the tissue. It's really thin so I actually adhere extra pieces so to build up the background to make it look more complex.

After the matt medium dried, I brushed on a coat of gesso randomly.

And this is how it looks like after I began to colour it!

I used my Tim Holtz Distress Stain Spray in Shabby Shutters, Spun Sugar, 13 arts Turquoise Pastel Spray and Dylusions Pure Sunshine Spray on canvas, as well as Luminarte Silks in Pink Grapefruit and Guatemalan Green on the butterflies.

The coat of gesso applied previously sort of created a whitewash effect on the canvas.

And because I realised the moodboard has got hot pink on it instead of soft pink, I splattered on some Dylusion Spray in Hot Pink and some diluted black gesso. Oh! I also added in some Honeycomb chipboard from Sizzix Tim Holtz range before splattering. Haha.

This is the final look after embellishments! I used mainly Prima flowers and die cut some intricate leaves from Prima as well. I also mixed some tiny glass beads with gesso and brushed it on around the centre piece to highlight it. I also used Tim Holtz's Small Talk Sticker Book for my sentiment. As for my wood veneer, I'm sorry that I couldn't remember where it come from cos the packaging was long gone, but I think it might be from freckled fawn.

Here are some detail shots. :)

So throughout the whole process of creating this canvas, my head was screaming NOOO as the colours coordination complete go against my natural instinct but my heart was telling me YESS and to finish what I started. Hahah. And that sounds like a song lyric. Hahaha. Despite the difficulty of executing this moodboard challenge, I had fun doing it especially the part where I had to crack my brain to somehow incorporate green in the canvas since I don't own sprays in vivid shade of green (AND I STILL THOUGHT PURPLE WAS DIFFICULT PREVIOUSLY!). Haha.

Anyway, that's all for this week!

Thanks for reading and leave some loves in the comment section below~

Let's Get Sketchy Design Team Call

HI! IM BACK AGAIN!

So I decided to apply for Let's Get Sketchy DT call. They currently have a DT call that runs till 9 April. You can find more information HERE!

I've decided to use this sketch as the inspiration for my layout. All you have to do is to do your layout using one of the 2 sketches they provided. As for me, since my style is mixed media, I tend to relate to this kind of layout better. Hehe.

Before I start anything, I sorta gave myself and extra challenge, that is to not use any new materials. So I picked up all my old papers, papers that are no longer in 12x12 size, old packets of flowers, etc.  So I'm not supposed to open new packaging for everything.

I choose this chevron paper from Teresa Collins from my paper pile and straight away swiped on some modelling paste using Prima Finnabair stencil. Before the paste dries, I quickly poured some Ranger's Embossing Powder in Liquid Platinum colour on most of the wet surface as well as some Black Embossing Powder from ZING! on selected areas.

I owned these powders for ages, but I don't seem to be using it so I just thought why not use it now. Haha.

If you happened to see some of my past layouts, the colours are pretty intense. Hence for this layout, I chose colours that are more vibrant and cheerful.

I used Tattered Angel Shimmer Mist in Yellow (Sorry I can't remember the exact name and I'm not at home to check!) as well as Patina Blue. I added in shades of purple and pink with Tim Holtz's Stain Spray in Tattered Rose and Milled Lavender.

I didn't spray the colours on directly to the paper. I wetted the paper first and splatter the colours then I used a wet brush to 'manoeuvre' the wet inks so they will not all mixed together and form some yucky colours. Haha. I find I can control the colours easier using this method.

I also watered down some black and white gesso to create some random splatter! This is a great way to add some details to your projects. Splatters make everything look better!

That's all for the background!

This is the final look after embellishments!

The flowers are from Prima Marketing. I added some black threads to create some fine details. I also used Prima's wired ribbons to highlight the picture of me and my friends taken in Strasbourg, France. I briefly studied in Freiburg, Germany for awhile and this is one of our escapades. Haha.

I used wood veneer stars from Studio Calico as well as Blue Fern Studios paper for layering behind my embellishments. My sentiment phrases are from Tim Holtz sticker book. I absolutely love this sticker book and I really recommend you to buy it. IT'S SUPER USEFUL!

Here are some close up shots.

I added from frayed burlap ribbons underneath the flowers.

I also adhered some clear glass glitter from Prima Finnabair using matt medium. After everything dried, I actually go back in with more Tattered Angels Patina Blue. I really love this technique as the ink will flow through the cracks of the glass glitter. It just looks super nice.

I also added Prima Finnabair Platinum glass glitter in random areas.

And that's it!

I'm very happy to use up some of my paper scraps, otherwise these scraps will just keep piling up! Haha.

Hope you like my tutorial!

Comment if you like it! :)

Layout using Recycled/Unwanted Supplies

Hi Guys!

It's been a long time since I last blogged. I have been really busy and trying to find time to scrap and blog. Haha. Scrapping makes me happy so I try to find time to scrap as well as using this time to destress. Haha.

Anyway, this layout is something I did a few weeks ago. Most of the supplies here are actually unwanted or recycled products from my scrapbooking friends, including the papers and some of the embellishments.

I actually found this photo when I was looking through my old photos from my Europe backpacking trip. This picture was taken in Lafayette Paris. I was super mind blown by the structure of this building. It doesn't look like a shopping mall, it looks like a theatre! I enjoyed my time shopping there, though it effectively made me poorer. HAHAHAHA.

I first primed this Kaisercraft paper with Prima Finnabair Clear Gesso. After that I intensify the 'antiqueness' of the paper with sprays from Tattered Angels and Tim Holtz Stain Spray.

After that I start stamping! I used Kaisercraft script stamp with Black Stazon as well as Prima Pastel Blue ink edger. As you can see, I build my layout in a way that the visual effect will be vertical from top to bottom, but actually as the layout proceeds, I change the visual effect to horizontal instead. Haha. It's actually pretty fun to see how things ended up so different from what I had planned.

I added Finnabair White Crackle Texture Paste with Finnabair stencil.

This is how it looks like after it dried. :)

Now the background is done, I start working on the embellishments.

This is actually a chipboard die cut with Sizzix dies. I altered it with Art Anthology's Dimensional Paint then brushed on a their White Sand Texture Paste for added texture.

Now, take a look at the final look of this layout!

See I actually change the direction of the layout? I actually like this arrangement more than the one I had planned. I also cut up the edges of the chipboard and framed it behind the photo.

Here are some close ups. :))

That's all for today. :)

Stay tuned for next week's post. :)

VIDEO TUTORIAL! JANUARY 2015 MOODBOARD CHALLENGE!

HI PEOPLE!

Im back again this week with my very first VIDEO TUTORIAL!!!

THIS IS SO EXCITING!!!

Okay. I'll have to admit that video editing is one tough cookie. Esp when your mac is old and ancient and iMovie keeps jamming up on you. Hahah. And I'm having mixed feelings of doing another video tutorial. Sigh~

What inspired me to make this video was that I went to Malaysia JB recently for a short one-day trip and I came across shops that sells little camera stands with a grip that allows you to clip on to the edge of the table yada yada. Anyway, since it's inexpensive, I bought it with the idea that I can clipped my phone onto that thing so I don't need to hold my phone when I read (I'm lazy I know).

Afterwards, I realised that the stand was actually long enough for me to video record the process of me doing a project! So being curious and strangely excited, I tried it out.

Little did I know that the whole process of making this video ended up being so funny. Hahaha. I was super conscious with my phone hanging on top of me that I ended up doing things in slowmo. I also had to tell my mum to quit talking to me. Hahaha. She must have thought I'm outta my mind.

Anyway, I suck at video editing so pardon me for the jerky video as well as the shaky screen somewhere in the middle of the video. And I'm really sorry that my head kept appearing because I was trying to see better. Haha.

So these are the mood boards that inspired me to make this layout.

This is the final look!
I was trying to clear up my christmas stash so this is something I created with a christmas paper from Kaisercraft in a non-christmas way.

Most of the materials I used are from Prima Marketing. There are some flowers that I altered before the video. They were altered with Shimmerz.

Anyway, enjoy the video!

Leave a comment to let me know what you think! And thanks for stopping by! :)

Maja Designs and Scrap Around the World January Challenge

Hello again!

For this week, I'm making a layout for both Maja Designs and Scrap Around the World January mood board.

I was actually deleting my photos from my phone since I simply have too much photos and it's becoming a problem for me, when I found this photo I took at the foot of Eiffel Tower in Paris. I am really thankful for a chance to step foot into Europe for a study trip. I befriended a lot of awesome people (which I don't know if we ever have the chance to meet again) and visited a lot of awesome places in different countries. It was definitely a highlight in my life thus far. Anyways...

I discovered Maja Designs through my friend Jelissa whom I befriended through our local scrapbook store.  So I began to follow Maja Designs and took a liking to their moodpboard this month and did my layout according to the tones and colours. But because I'm an idiot who got too exciting after seeing something I like, I conveniently missed the part which says we must use their products. Oh well, I have already completed my layout so I'm still gonna give it a shot. It's okay if I don't win anything, it's still a fun process doing this layout. :)

I started out with this piece of 12x12 die cut from Kaisercraft Blue Bay Collection named Indigo. And I have to say this collection is absolutely fabulous and I didn't even manage to lay my hands on other patterned papers from this collection in our local scrapbook store. :(

Anyway, I cut out the centre piece and layered it with another piece of 12x12 paper at the back of the frame from the same collection.

Did some stamping first with Kaisercraft Tiny Dots stamps as well as Prima Stamps from the Cigar Box Collection. I then used the Damask stencil from Prima with Finnabair Light Paste.

It's not really obvious now, but once it's dried and after I add colours through spray mists, it'll be much more obvious.

I also decided to alter the frame slightly. I added thin coat of Finnabair White Crackle Paint. It's not really obvious in the picture as the cracks are really small since I only painted a thin coat. I also added more colours with my Prima Chalk Edger in Worn Jeans, Pastel Blue, Attic Dust and Pastel Yellow.

I also added some stamping with Tattered Angel stamps that was designed by Heidi Swapp.

Next, I started spraying randomly! Haha. So I used Tattered Angels' Silver Sugar, Mustard Seed and Tim Holtz Distress Stain Spray in Tattered Rose, Milled Lavender.

Once everything is nice and dry, it's time to start layering! Most of my embellishments are from Prima and that tag belongs to Kaisercraft.

I layered flower die cuts from Prima as well as a lot of flowers. Hahaha. My layouts are always so flowery. Those butterflies are from Tim Holtz Sizzix Movers and Shapers.

I've also added some Flocked Rub-ons from Prima, before this, I have no idea such things existed. I bought them over from another crafter who don't need them. Initially, I don't know what they are but after using it, I think it's rather awesome since it gives off interested texture.

Take a closer look. :)

I also added from Glass Glitters from Finnabair in Platinum as prepared to call it a day, I even took photo for the completed layout for blogging. But when I came back the next day, I decided I'm not very happy with this piece. I felt that it's lacking of some intensity. I felt that my centre composition is too bright/cheerful for an ornate frame which looks vintage.

So I began to grab whatever that were near me and adding it on (of course its something that fit in the theme). I added some Art Anthology Dimensional Paint in Sandstone for the sand texture on the frame. It might not be obvious, but it's nice to touch. :)

Altered the flowers by spraying Tattered Angel's Old Lace and Silver Sugar and painted some gesso over it as highlights. I also painted a light coat of gesso over the glass glitters to mute them down a little as I felt they're too shiny.

I used Dylusion Spray in Melted Chocolate as well as Silver Sugar.

Made some splatters with gesso, Dylusion Melted Chocolate and Tattered Angels' Sugar Maple. The sentiments are stickers from Crate Paper.

So this is the main composition after all the impromptu altering.

And TADA! The final look of this layout.

I actually prefer this look better as the colours are more intense as compared to the previous one. And I felt that the blue highlights from the frame ties in nicely with the black and white photo of Eiffel Tower I took in Paris as well as the platinum glass glitters.

So this is it!

Thanks for reading!

Tell me what you think of this layout! :)
