January Challenge for Scrap Around the World and Blue Fern Studios

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I'm back with a new layout this week. This is actually a gift requested by Valerie, it's supposed to be a gift for a person that she's thankful for.

I took this chance to participate in the January Challenge for both Scrap Around the World as well as Blue Fern Studios.

This is the mood board for this month's Scrap Around the World Challenge. IT'S SO PRETTY RIGHT?!? I really like this shabby chic theme. I'm very much influenced by the elements of this mood board. As you can see later, I'll include the elements of the dusty pink roses, clock as well as keys.

For more information of the challenge, click here!

And the picture below is the sketch by Blue Fern Studios. For more information, click here!

Okay, so I started out with trimming this piece of Blue Fern Studios pattern paper to 8x8 inches to go into my 8x8 inches shadow box then primed it with Prima Finnabair Clear Gesso.

Then taking the leftover pieces from that patterned paper and fussy cut out the pieces.

I began to pull out some scraps and tore them to pieces for layering, trying to figure out where I should do my stencilling. The papers are from Maggie Holmes and Blue Fern Studios.

If you noticed, I had heat embossed some Stampendous Embossing Enamel in Bronze on the 'vine' thingy randomly. Then I proceeded with the stencilling. I did this with Heavy Matte Gel by Liquidtex with Dear Lizzy Serendipity Collection stencil.

Did this with modelling paste by Teresa Collins with one of the Studio Calico stencils.

This is how it looked so far after stencilling as well as adhering the fussy cut pieces.

I watercoloured over the gel medium. If you noticed, watercolouring over gel medium and modelling paste will yield different results. Gel Medium acts like a resist as it will not absorb the colours, whereas the modelling paste will absorb the colours.

Over here, I used a mixture of Dylusion Brown ink spray with Hot Pink to get this kind of dusty pink colour.

IT'S TIME TO EMBELLISH!

Learn this trick from Jelissa, if you don't know about her, please go check her out! Her works are super amazing. Anyway, these roses I used are made of Mulberry Papers, so when I applied ink at the bottom, I just need to add a little water, the ink will bleed naturally and create this very natural coloured rose.

So this is the final look! I added some circles at the back with my pencil to create more interest in the background. I also added resin key from Prima Marketing and fussy cut a clock out as they're part of the elements on Scrap Around the World mood board. :)

Here are some close-ups. :)

Painted some clear distress crackle to give it some texture.

So at the end of the day, I deviated from the Blue Fern Sketch a little because I thought I needed something on the left to balance out the 'heaviness' on the right. But I'm still gonna try my luck and enter the Blue Fern Studios Challenge. Haha.

Anyway, this is it for this week!

HAPPY NEW YEAR ONCE AGAIN AND HAVE A GREAT YEAR AHEAD!

Thanks for reading! :)
